Jack Frost Cosplay

This week I got a chance to photograph Brooke from DeathThorn Cosplay as Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians.  This shoot so reminded me of the old school plays where women played the parts of boys.  A prime example is Peter Pan which in the plays was typically played by a women.  Brooke has put some serious time into this cosplay and after she showed me the makeup test I wanted to make sure I added some magic myself.

For lighting we stuck to my favorites the Profoto B2.

Profoto is absolutely amazing at light shaping and some can say that they are too pricy.   All I have to say is I couldn’t have pulled this shoot off with speed lights my recycle time needed to be high and I actually needed the modeling light to be able to see what we were doing.  So bottom line you get what you pay for.  This is an amazing well built kit that I hope to use for the next several years.

You can see here I used the Profoto OCF 2′ Octo for my primary light.

Like I said before I needed to make this magical so I wanted to add snow and color.  I used a blue gel over the second B2 head and then used a photographers trick for snow.  What’s the trick.

That’s right Hungry Jack Instant potatoes was used as snow.  The best part is that it’s biodegradable so we had no mess to clean up afterwards.

Once we had the snow it was time to set the shots the snowballs are styrofoam balls you get in a planetary kit at your local craft store.
